Goodluck Jonathan Sets World record, becomes the most cursed President on Facebook

Goodluck Jonathan, the soft spoken President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has become the most cursed President ever on facebook following his removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria. What makes this a world record is because the curses are coming from his own fans.

Before the April 2011 election and immediately thereafter, Jonathan enjoyed a steady out-pour of affection from Nigerians. Some of his fans on facebook in fact could not restrain their love for him that very many of their comments bothered on share sycophancy, the type that has come to permanently define the Nigeria political space.
That has however changed.
Following his unilateral removal of subsidy on premium motor spirit (PMS) on the first day of the new year, the fans numbering over 678,829 turned against him enmass and have been raining curses upon him in torrents
Out of over 9,000 comments, it was difficult to see any that was not a negative reaction against him.
Some of the sample comments are reproduced below:

“u are a fool for doin dis forgettin d slum u came from and a maga doin dis 2 dos who cant afford 2 buy feul for dat amount”
“U promised us good life, but now u v’e given us stone to eat,u re a failure mr president posterity ll hurt u 4 ever.i regreted voting u.”
“I don’t know your next line of action but must make it known that your actions would do more evil than good to the Nigerian people. I hope it is not Abati or any of his goats that would be reading these comments but you.

Now, from Yaba to Ikeja which used to be 70-100naira is now costing between 250 and 500naira. May God save Nigeria from your hands. I don’t need to call the President a devil. He would determine whether he is one or not by his actions. We need fresh air o! At least that was your promise. God is the Judge, take note.”

” Jonathan, borrow some balls & be a Man for once even if na half Man or alternatively, STEP DOWN. You are the biggest thief this country has ever seen. You are cursed, to think we the youths will let you & your worthless cabals destroy this country… you‘ve got another fin coming. STEP DOWN.”

Several of these comments received many likes, an indication that those that did not bother to drop their comment showed their solidarity with the comments rendered by others.

Girl Predicts Her Death On Facebook,Died Moments Later

A 12-year-old Texas girl posted a chilling message on Facebook that read, “I think I may die 2day,” and just hours later her mother shot her in the head. Ramie Marie Grimmer’s prophetic message was written on Monday just hours after her mother, Rachelle Grimmer, took her and brother Timothy, 10, hostage along with a human services worker at a state office in Laredo, Texas, reported MSNBC.

The standoff came to an unfortunate end later that night when Rachelle shot both Ramie and her little brother once in the head, then killed herself. Timothy remains in critical condition at a San Antonio hospital, where his sister died of her wounds on Wednesday.

The seven-hour ordeal caught the nation’s attention after it was reported that Grimmer had gotten upset with the Laredo welfare office because they denied her food stamps.

After being taken into a private room by a supervisor to discuss her case, she pulled a gun and held her hostage. She later let the woman go, and hostage negotiators and police talked with her all night while she spilled a slew of complaints against state and federal government agencies.
At around 7.50 p.m., Ramie changed the “employer” section of her Facebook account to “may die 2day.” Later at 10:34 p.m., Ramie posted, “im bored,” and then 18 minutes later, “ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhahhhhhhhh.”

The little girl’s final post was 11:28 p.m., and read “tear gas seriasly,” which is thought to reference the SWAT team that had surrounded the building attempting to restrain her mom.
As the drama played out on the social networking site, the children’s grandmother responded: “I’m here for you guys. no reason to be afraid.”

Tragically, three shots rang out at around 11.45 p.m., and police found the body of Grimmer and her two injured children.
Grandmother Mary Lee Shepherd claims her daughter-in-law had a history of mental problems and she and her son, Dale Grimmer had contacted social workers three times because they were worried she would harm the children..

Update
10-year-old Timothy Grimmer died Thursday evening at a hospital in San Antonio after he was removed from life support.
Their father, Dale Grimmer, spent time at his son’s bedside Thursday before consulting with doctors and deciding to remove Timothy from life support, according to Mary Lee Shepherd, the children’s grandmother.
“He spent hours with Ramie and finally had to let her go,” Shepherd said. “He’s just concentrating on saying goodbye to his children.”
The boy’s sister, Ramie, died Wednesday night at the same hospital.
Authorities say their mother, 38-year-old Rachelle Grimmer, shot the children Monday night and then killed herself, ending a seven-hour standoff at the Texas Department of Health and Human Services office in Laredo, Texas.

Hackers To Shut Down Facebook On November 5th

Members of an internet group known as Anonymous have threatened to shut down Facebook on November 5.

The Anonymous group is a loosely organised alliance of hackers from around the world.

Locally, they have been attributed to crashing the Australian government website in February 2010 in a protest against Senator Stephen Conroy's quest to pass internet filtering laws.

In a YouTube video from July, and now disabled, Anonymous related hackers announced their proposed attack on the social networking site for November 5 saying, "Facebook has been selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world."

They have vowed to, "kill Facebook."

Anonymous has officially distanced itself from the Facebook threat and deny the claim they are orchestrating the attack, they say hackers associated with the group are pursuing it.

The November 5 date was reportedly chosen because it is also Guy Fawkes Day, the day that marks a man's attempt to blow up the British House of Parliament in 1605.

Anonymous unofficially uses Guy Fawkes as a anti-heroism as a symbolic mascot, by wearing the Guy Fawkes mask used in Alan Moore's graphic novel V for Vendetta.

In Moore's story, the mask is worn by a lone freedom fighter against government iniquity.

A member of Queensland police says he would consider the threat seriously, 7News reports.

Brian Hay from Queensland's fraud squad says that he believes hackers of this kind don't make baseless threats.

"I'd imagine they've gone in – they've defeated the security system, they've got access, they're confident they can do it again and they're not going to be found out." says Brian Hay.

Cyber crime expert Dr Adrian McCullagh agrees saying Anonymous should be taken seriously, telling 7News that is they were successful 10 per cent of the global population would be affected.
Facebook currently has over 800 million users worldwide.

Fairer than Facebook? New social site PAYS you money for your best posts

Facebook earns its £1.1 billion a year in advertising revenue by posting adverts at the side of users pages.
So if you're a prolific Facebook poster whose every post is buried in 'Likes' and comments, you're effectively providing free entertainment while Mark Zuckerberg's multi-billion company pockets the profits.

A new start up - Chime.in - aims to take what it sees as a fairer approach.

Half of the revenue for the adverts which appear on someone's Chime.in page will be split with the person in question - and if users sell the space direct to companies they can keep all of the money.

The arrangement is unique for social networking and is ‘firing a shot’ across the industry, said Chime’s creator Bill Gross.

Until now websites like Facebook and Twitter have simply raked off all the money made from advertising whilst users earned nothing.

Gross said that with Chime ‘finally, the interests of the content creators are aligned with the interests of the publisher because they get something for their hard work’.

Gross currently runs the Ubermedia network which is responsible for Echofon and UberSocial, two popular Twitter clients which reach a combined six million users.

It will have many of the same features as Twitter and Facebook such as a news feed, a panel to see who is online, messages and updates.

He has dubbed his new creation an ‘interest network’ rather than a social network because of the way it works.

But the main difference - aside from the revenue sharing - is to make it easier for people to choose and be introduced to their specific areas of interest.

Gross says Chime’s algorithms will be better at recommending groups and ideas based on personal interest, ensuring users are not overwhelmed with content.

Users can label their ‘Chimes’ with up to five interest tags which dictate what is posted on their page.

Major brands like Disney, Bravo Entertainment and Universal Pictures are also on board and have created pages which give previews up upcoming shows and films.

Corporations such as Disney are already signed up to 'partner' with Chime.in to offer previews of upcoming shows and films. The idea is to inspire discussions on the site, which will be built around 'interest groups'

In an interview with the Huffington Post he said: ‘‘This is not just about urgent news and keeping up with friends and relatives. It's about diving into interests.

‘People are moving away from searching the web to connecting with people and they'll tell me what I need to know.’

Some observers however have questioned whether or not Chime is really anything new, something that Gross admitted in an interview with technology website Socialbeat.

He said: ‘It’s an amalgam of blogging and Reddit and Facebook — there’s aspects of each in there.

‘We’re definitely borrowing those good ideas. But this is a deeper dive into their interests and intelligent conversations around (users') passions.’

He added: ‘The way we get new users is through the interests and how those are related to the publishers we’re inviting to the platform.’

Revenue sharing schemes already exist on the Internet - although not on social media - but have not been so generous as that of Chime.in.

Other sites such as YouTube do offer users money for popular posts - but Chime is uniquely generous. On YouTube, a video that is watched 1,000 times would earn $0.85

From 2007 YouTube began paying contributors a per centage of the advertising revenue to users whose videos become popular.

According to Business Insider, the cost per minute for a banner advert would be o $0.85, meaning that for every 1,000 channel views, a YouTube partner receives $0.85.

Some clips have been watched more than 40 million times, earning those who posted them a small fortune
